- * Methionine aminopeptidase signature *
- ***************************************
-
- Methionine aminopeptidase (EC 3.4.11.18) (MAP) is responsible for the removal
- of the amino-terminal methionine from nascent eukaryotic cytosolic and
- cytoplasmic prokaryotic proteins, if the penultimate amino acid is small
- and uncharged.
-
- Prokaryotic and yeast MAP sequences show [1] a number of conserved regions. We
- selected one which contains three histidine residues, as a signature pattern.
-
- -Consensus pattern: Y-x-G-H-G-[LIVM]-G-x(3)-H-x(2)-P-x-[LIVM]-x-H-Y
- -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL.
- -Other sequence(s) detected in SWISS-PROT: NONE.
- -Last update: June 1992 / First entry.
